Gemma Macintyre
Gemma is a solicitor within the Planning team and qualified into the team in October 2024 after completing two of her four training seats in planning.
About Gemma
Gemma assists both commercial and individual clients with aspects of the planning process and highway matters, including objections to development, planning obligation agreements, highway and infrastructure agreements, planning appeals and judicial review claims.

Experience
Gemma completed her second and fourth training seat in the Planning team and joined the team permanently on qualification in October 2024, her experience includes:
- Advising clients in connection with highways and infrastructure agreements under Section 38 and 278 of the Highways Act 1980.
- Advising developers with respect to Section 106 Agreements.
- Advising clients in relation to Section 104 Agreements under the Water Industry Act 1991 and drafting of associated Deeds of Indemnity.
- Drafting of Deed of Variations to a Section 106 Agreement under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to address a variety of changes.
- Assisting in a claim seeking the courts declaration regarding a sites status as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.
- Assisting in relation to a Judicial Review claim in relation to the relocation of a footpath.
- Drafting of Section 53 Counternotices under the Land Compensation At 1973 for landowners in connection with HS2.
- Advising on and drafting of a planning objection letter relating to a planning application concerning flooding and impacts to the local community.
- Preparing an application under Section 247 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to stop up a footway to facilitate development on site.
Before joining the Planning team, Gemma worked as a Senior Paralegal in Property Litigation for a period of 3 years. This included acting on behalf of large retail clients and providing pragmatic advice tailored to their requirements.
Gemma also spent 6 months on client secondment at the University of Warwick in their Legal and Compliance team where she advised on commercial contracts and data protection law including Freedom of Information requests.
Career
Gemma successfully completed the Professional Skills Course with the University of Law and qualified as a Solicitor in October 2024.
Gemma has a master’s degree in Law, Business and Management from the University of Law combined with the Legal Practice Course.
Graduated from the University of Birmingham with 2:1 LLB Law degree.
Interests
Outside work Gemma enjoys meeting up with friends and travelling to explore new destinations. Gemma grew up in Spain and likes to visit as often as she can to see family and friends.
