Experience
Estate Planning (Tax mitigation and Preservation of Assets) is a specialist area and Richard has over 10 years’ experience dealing with the preparation, registration and administration of Trusts.
Richard always strives to avoid the use of legal jargon. Richard can convey technical issues in a way that every client can fully understand.
- Advised a business owner and his spouse on the amendment of their existing Wills to utilise all available allowances potentially preserving over £10 million for their children.
- Advised a client on the preparation and implementation of a Trust structure allowing the transfer of assets (and the eventual reduction of their taxable estate) whilst ensuring that they retained the ability to enjoy the income that the asset provided.
Career
After gaining his law degree at Coventry University, Richard qualified as a Solicitor in 2014. Richard gained experience working as in-house counsel for a Trust Corporation before acting as Head of Department for several large Birmingham firms. Before joining Wright Hassall as Partner in 2023, Richard managed a Solicitors firm which formed part of a large Wealth Management Group based in Oxfordshire.
Interests
Outside work Richard enjoys playing Golf (when the weather is nice) and when his wife occasionally allows him to, he'll go clay pigeon shooting. Richard is married with two small children. When not navigating the stresses of parenthood, Richard enjoys travelling the length and breadth of the country supporting Peterborough United F.C.
